Google Places API cost calculator
Since Google retired the $200 monthly credit, a place-search bill is five SKU rates, four volume bands, and a
per-SKU free cap. Put in your monthly volume and see the real number — next to a flat plan for the same
searches.

Every number the calculator uses, from Google's Global price list. Rates are USD per 1,000 calls; bands are
marginal, so the first 100K bills at the first rate and only the calls past each breakpoint get the cheaper
one. Free caps are per SKU, per month, and don't pool.
IDs-only search and details variants are free and unlimited, but return identifiers without names or
addresses. Committed-use discounts beyond the 5M+ band exist only through Google sales and aren't published,
so the calculator treats the 5M+ rate as the floor. Full field-tier rules are in
Google's data-fields documentation.
Where the flat plan fits.
Server-side place search: your backend has a coordinate and needs the places around it, by text or by
category, as JSON. One authenticated GET /v1/places call returns names, coordinates,
addresses, categories, distance, phone, website, and a confidence score — and the
data rights let you store what comes back.
Where it doesn't.
Address autocomplete, geocoding, map tiles, routing, photos, reviews, and rich venue profiles stay
Google-shaped problems. If your product needs those, the honest comparison is a smaller Google bill via
field-mask hygiene — start with the Google Places comparison.
Pricing questions this tool gets asked.
Short answers, current as of 2026-07-03.
How much does the Google Places API cost per 1,000 requests?
Text Search and Nearby Search bill at the Pro SKU floor: $32.00 per 1,000 calls for the first 100,000 in a month, stepping down through volume bands to $2.40 above 5 million. Requesting fields like ratings or opening hours re-prices calls at Enterprise ($35.00) and reviews or photos at Enterprise + Atmosphere ($40.00).
What replaced Google's $200 monthly credit?
On March 1, 2025 Google replaced the pooled $200 credit with per-SKU free monthly caps: 10,000 calls for Essentials SKUs, 5,000 for Pro, and 1,000 for Enterprise. The caps don't pool or roll over, so a workload that fit under the old credit can now bill from a much smaller allowance.
Why does adding one field change the whole bill?
Google bills each request at the highest tier of any field in its field mask. One reviews or photos field on an otherwise-Pro request re-prices that entire call at Enterprise + Atmosphere. Field-mask hygiene is the single biggest lever on a Places API bill.
Is this calculator's pricing current?
Rates, volume bands, and free caps were verified against Google's core-services price list (Global) on 2026-07-03; they have been unchanged since the March 2025 restructure. Always confirm against Google's published pricing before procurement — this is a model, not a quote.
Can Open Places API replace Google Places?
Only for the server-side search slice: places near a coordinate, by text or category, returned as JSON with names, addresses, categories, phone, website, and confidence in one call. It does not replace autocomplete, geocoding, map tiles, routing, photos, or reviews.
Run one real search before you model another SKU.
Free plan is 10,000 searches a month, no credit card. The result you get back is yours to keep.
